TITLE I

What is Title 1?

Title I, Part A is a federal program that provides supplemental financial assistance to schools with high percentages of children from low-income families to help them meet challenging academic standards. These funds are used in Michigan schools to support extra instruction in core subjects like reading and math, implement school-wide programs, and increase parent involvement.

Perry Elementary

Perry Elementary has a Schoolwide Program. Instead of only serving a specific group of identified students, our schoolwide program allows the school to use these funds to upgrade the entire educational program of the school. This means Title I resources can support comprehensive, school-wide improvements such as providing professional development for all teachers, integrating technology, and offering additional academic support and resources for every student in the school, maximizing the overall impact on student achievement.

Perry Upper Elementary

Perry Upper Elementary is a Targeted Assistance Title I School. We use federal funds to provide supplemental services to a select group of students identified as being the most at risk of failing to meet challenging state academic standards. Unlike a schoolwide program, these resources are specifically directed to support identified students with specialized, high-quality, and evidence-based instruction, often in reading or math. Services may include small-group instruction, tutoring, and extended learning time (before/after school or summer programs), all designed to accelerate the academic progress of the participating students and ensure they have the best opportunity to achieve success.

Title 1 Program Goals: Our primary objective is to provide equitable educational opportunities. We utilize Title I resources to:

  • Boost Achievement: Provide targeted interventions in core subjects like reading and mathematics.

  • Support Staff: Fund professional development to ensure our teachers use the most effective instructional strategies.

  • Empower Families: Create strong partnerships between home and school to support student learning.

Eligibility & Student Selection: We use a data-driven approach to identify students who would benefit most from extra help. Eligibility is not permanent; it is based on current academic needs. We review:

  • District and state standardized assessment scores.

  • Classroom performance and grades.

  • Teacher recommendations and observations.

If your child is identified for Title I services, you will be notified by the school. These services may be short-term interventions or year-long support, depending entirely on your child's growth and needs.

Partnering for Success: Research shows that students are most successful when their families are actively involved in their education. We view parents and guardians as our partners. You are your child's first and most influential teacher. When you show interest in school, you teach your child that education is valuable. Ways to Get Involved:

  • Communicate: Keep in touch with your child's teacher and attend Parent-Teacher Conferences.

  • Establish Routines: Ensure your child attends school on time every day and has a quiet space for homework.

  • Engage at Home: Read with your child daily or ask them to explain what they learned in math class.

  • Participate: Attend school events, open houses, and Title I parent meetings, and provide feedback.

Parent's Right to Know: As a parent in a Title I district, you have the right to request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child's classroom teachers and paraprofessionals. Please contact the district office if you wish to exercise this right.

Contact Information: If you have questions about the Title I program, assessment data, or how you can support your child's learning, please contact us.
