What Does The Counselor Do?
The school counselor works with students, families, and staff to support student success in many ways. Counseling services are short-term, school-based, and skill-focused.
You may see me:
• Teaching classroom guidance lessons
• Working with students individually
• Facilitating small counseling groups
• Supporting students during transitions or difficult situations
• Helping students develop friendship and social skills
• Teaching emotional regulation and coping strategies
• Collaborating with teachers, administrators, and families
• Connecting families with outside resources when needed
The school counselor does not provide long-term therapy or make clinical diagnoses.
