What does the elementary school do when a student is feeling sick at school? When a student is sent to the office by their teacher, the office staff first takes their temperature. Then the student is escorted to the sick room where they rest for 10 minutes. At this time we will investigate if the student has eaten, needs a drink, or needs to use the restroom. After 10 minutes we ask the student how they are feeling. If they are ready to go back to class, then we allow this. If they are still feeling sick, then we will call home. At this time we are assuming that all parents have screened their child prior to the start of the day and that the symptoms have developed since then. During a pandemic, we will not make the decision at school regarding whether or not a child is faking sickness. We will ask you to pick up your child if any of these symptoms persist:
If your child is sent home for any of these reasons, they are not to return to school until they are 24 hours symptom free.
